Presented to Antoine “DJ Yella” Carraby, this official RIAA double platinum sales award recognizes the certified sale of more than two million copies of Straight Outta Compton, the landmark 1988 debut album by N.W.A. Released through Ruthless Records in partnership with Priority, the record remains one of the most consequential works in hip hop history—both musically and culturally.

As co-producer alongside Dr. Dre, DJ Yella helped define the album’s signature sound: minimalist, drum-machine-driven production layered with funk samples, filtered basslines, and abrupt cuts that heightened the intensity of the verses. Their production style stripped hip hop down to its rawest form—giving a backdrop to some of the most incendiary lyrics of the late '80s. Tracks like “Straight Outta Compton,” “Gangsta Gangsta,” and “F**k tha Police” delivered unflinching accounts of systemic racism, police violence, and life in South Central Los Angeles. The album sparked widespread national controversy and brought the realities of urban America into full public view.

Straight Outta Compton did more than sell records—it catalyzed a shift in the genre’s center of gravity. It introduced the world to Ice Cube, Eazy-E, and MC Ren, and set the stage for the rise of West Coast gangsta rap. The record’s cultural impact extended far beyond music, inspiring a major motion picture decades later and earning a place in the Library of Congress’s National Recording Registry for its lasting historical significance.

This framed RIAA award includes two silver-colored LPs, two cassette and CD components, and two artwork panels featuring the Straight Outta Compton cover. The brushed-metal certification plate is engraved to DJ Yella and mounted at center. A red N.W.A. logo is printed directly on the outer glass surface, and DJ Yella’s signature appears in black marker across one of the records.
