Description
Original SSL 4000 G+ mixing console used by Dr. Dre in Room B at Record One Studios—one of the most important production tools in modern hip-hop history. It’s the desk that helped engineer the signature “Dre sound”: warm analog tones, surgical EQs, punchy low-end, and immaculate stereo width.
Installed at Record One during a crucial era, this SSL was Dre’s primary workstation for decades. It was used to produce The Chronic (1992), Doggystyle (1993), 2001 (1999), and countless records under his Aftermath label. From the breakout success of Eminem and 50 Cent to the sonic layering on Anderson .Paak and Kendrick Lamar projects, this board directly shaped the sound of an entire generation.
Dre was known for spending months refining his mixes—meticulously dialing in vocals, drums, and synths—and the SSL was central to that process. This board helped translate rough demos into finished tracks with commercial punch and cinematic clarity. According to engineers and collaborators, Dre even had an SSL in his home to ensure total control over his mix environment—evidence of how integral the tool was to his craft.
The console’s utility spanned genres and decades. Snoop Dogg, Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige, Gwen Stefani, Busta Rhymes, The Game—virtually every major artist who entered the studio between the early ’90s and mid-2000s passed through this board. It wasn’t just a tool; it was the backbone of a production legacy.
This SSL was received directly from legendary producer Che Pope, former GM of Aftermath Entertainment and longtime Dre collaborator. The console shows no damage. Its working condition is undetermined and has not been tested since removal from the studio. Includes power supply unit and rack cabinet.
